The Notes and Manuscripts of Alexander Brown Bell
Transcripts and Images of the original manuscripts for selected writings, short stories and lectures of Alexander Brown Bell.
Alexander Brown Bell 09 June 1861 - 30 December 1939
This is work in progress - the majority of Alexander Brown Bells papers are held in archives in Sheffield and Leeds associated with the Yorkshire Evening Post. However some of the papers which he thought worth typing up and sharing with his son, Alexander Bell (my grandfather), that did not appear to have been included in those collections, or published elsewhere, are going to be presented here.
After the untimely death of my brother Alexander David Bell in 2023, I came into possession of a number of additional "Holden - Bell" manuscripts, that like the Doris papers, he had been holding following our fathers death. I have decided to add them as side pieces to the Doris story to bring new perspective on these interesting characters in our family history.
Charcoal portrait of Alexander Brown Bell by Jacob Kramer (1892- 1962) from 1919. (Now in need of some restoration)
Apparently Jacob was a bit of an artistic celebrity in the immediate post WWI Leeds, which may explain how my great grandfather, who at that time was the chief leader writer for the Yorkshire Evening Post, came to sit for a portrait from the then famous local artist.
