For this website various members of the family, my siblings and their spouses, have kindly assisted me through scanning Doris's original manuscripts, clippings/ cuttings and associated documents, and photographs. Also my cousins have been able to pass on various snippets of family life stories of Doris and Alexander Bells life together, they recall hearing from their parents, and their friends & families, of the lives of  Doris, Alexander and the four young Bell boys in Peterborough.

For her writings, I have utilised Optical Character Recognition (OCR) to translate these original  document scans into editable text.

(For the computer technically minded I used the Linux ocrmypdf (Tesseract) for the OCR, Google Docs as my text editor, and partnered this with pdftoppm for conversion of the various PDF into the final shown images as appropriate.)

I have subsequently transcribed, edited and given a limited "proof read" to these documents. Trying where possible to maintain Doris's original format, spelling and grammar. My goal being to ensure that the transcribed text is a true reflection of her writing, and aligns as much as possible with Doris's original typescript and hand annotations. This means that the text versions presented may differ slightly from the final published versions shown.

I have utilised the fantastic resource of the British Newspaper Archive to locate as many of the works as possible. This has meant, that I have been able to confirm the full final publication details of many of the manuscripts. Where I have been able to locate these final published versions in that archive, I present the full page showing the article in its original presentation - drawn from that resource. Where Doris, and the family, had kept specific original cuttings & clippings of her work, these are also shown along side.

For the other stories and articles, not published in the newspapers, I aim to locate copies of the original publication versions; whether purchased second hand, or present in the British Library or elsewhere. Then to collect and publish, like the other stories, the corresponding images drawn from my own scans and photographs of the relevant books, magazines and periodicals, for these documents.
