Eggs

Eggs have been so cheap lately that omelettes have figured on many menus. A young mother of my acquaintance told me the other day how hers proved unexpectedly expensive, “I was so delighted to get eggs at less than a penny each," she said, that I brought home a big bagful, planning to make lemon curd, some extra special cakes and cheap dinner for baby and myself. I was busy with the omelette pan, Peter, as usual, watching operations from a kitchen chair, when I heard a thud and a surprised gasp. Turning hastily; I saw the hearthrug covered with cracked and broken eggs, while Peter, on the chair, still held aloft the paper beg, upside down. Looking at me with a pair of round eyes, he remarked in tones of great astonishment :"Eggy mess!" It was!

Any additional notes or observations about the this tale are here:

One of the short sketch style pieces recounting the exploits of David and Peter that didnt fit the YEP or develop into a full scene that could feature in the Doings.

I wonder if this example of “mess making” was from before or after the made by Peter with sugar on the kitchen floor mentioned in “Absent Friends”?
