Cheer a Passer By
At the end of a row of drab houses, I came upon a pleasant surprise. The vacant corner lot had been acquired by one of the house owners as an extras garden. Instead of the usual fences, open iron railings surrounded it, through which I had a clear view of little paths among well-filled beds, in which the spring bulbs were already high. The garden gate bore a wooden panel, on which I read these words:
“God bless my bit of garden
And make its flowers grow,
That they may give pleasure
To all the folk I know”
As one of the folks he didn't know, I thanked the gardener for his kindly thought.
