D. M. H - The Yorkshire Evening Post

The majority of Doris' short articles were published in the Yorkshire Evening Post. Usually under her own name - presented as the initials "D. M. H" or as one of the contributors to the papers regular columns like - "A Womans Notebook", "From a Yorkshirewoman's Diary" and "Diary of a Yorkshireman". Given that her father in law, Alexander Brown Bell (A. B. B), was the papers Deputy Editor and Chief Leader Writer from 1912 - 1934, perhaps suggests why she may have considered this a good choice of publication vehicle. The choice of this newspaper as a vehicle for publication would certainly be in accordance with her ideas presented in "Seeing the funny side" published in "The Writer" January 1934 which can be found under the "Other Published" Area.

Follow the links below for the original manuscripts, their transcription, publication submission correspondence and final published form if available.  The publication dates are listed. Where Doris's original cuttings of the article from the newspaper are available these are shown. Where possible I have tried to locate images (For example in the British Newspaper Archive - all such images are credited to the the appropriate archive and the original source) to show the article in its final published form and context. Though ultimately I intend to replace these with my own photographs as I am able to gain physical access to the original published documents.
